Owning a high-capacity SSD is a bit like having a butler — it’s a lovely option, but so damn expensive. Intel’s announcing Lyndonville — more modestly called the SSD 710, which replaces the less modestly named X25-E Extreme. The enterprise-level SSD’s carrying 25-nanometer MLC flash memory and when tested, five of the drives were able to handle the same load as 90 x 15,000 RPM HDDs in Intel’s data center. The drives will be available in the fall, and considering it’s already September, we can only assume the company is waiting for a few more leaves to turn brown before going to OEMs. Volume pricing for units of 1,000 places the 100GB model at $649, 200GB at $1,289 and the 300GB at a tear-inducing $1,929. You can see Intel’s Agustin Gonzalez talk up the 710 in the video after the break.

Samsung has announced that they’ve developed a low-voltage 1.25V RAM for servers. This greener DDR3 RDIMM module uses 4Gb 30nm process technology and is more power efficient than 1.5V or 1.35V DDR3 modules.
To put it in perspective a 1.25V 16GB RDIMM operating at a bandwidth of up to 1,333Mbps is 15 percent more power efficient (consumes just 3.7 watts per hour) as compared to a similar 1.35V 16GB RDIMM.
Samsung will produce these RAMs in capacities of 4, 8 and 16GB

Nothing ruins a Kodak moment faster than taking a timeout to set up a tripod, which is why the folks at Gomite went magnetic when developing its tiny new Tiltpod. Designed for compact cameras or video recorders, magnets enable users to sidestep the whole “screw-in” process that typically eats away precious pre-shot moments. The underside is made of an elusive “grippy material,” enabling it to perch easily on rocks, car hoods, bathroom sinks or any other odd place you may want to recall vividly. Kind of like a cheaper version of this guy, the Tiltpod is available online now for a cool $17.95. For those still struggling to grok the purpose, there’s a gallery’s worth of explanation just below.

Sony’s just announced in Tokyo that the PlayStation Vita will debut in Japan on December 17th, and it’ll partner with NTT DoCoMo for the console’s prepaid 3G service. Customers will have two choices of connection here: 980 yen ($13) for 20 hours, and 4,980 yen ($65) for 100 hours — see press release after the break. Alas, the rest of the world will still have to wait until 2012, but you’ll know more concrete dates as soon as we do. For now, head over to our sister site Joystiq for the SCEJ press conference liveblog.

One look at the Levitatr and you would think the sleek accessory was an add-on display or a large touchpad for your tablet. But hidden within the glossy, black design is a full-sized, retractable keyboard with backlit keys.
Besides its elevating keys, the bluetooth accessory has an anodized aluminum chassis and includes a kickstand for holding your tablet. It’s a slightly beefy 12.5mm thick, but that extra bulk is needed to provide room for the movable keys.
The keyboard is still in the prototype stage, but you can reserve a unit via Kickstarter. Pricing starts at $79, but you can give as little as $1 just to take part in the final design of the device.

Nintendo didn’t say so on stage during the pre-Tokyo Game Show 3DS press conference tonight, but it really is shipping that odd-looking circle pad add-on. The “extended slide pad” is up on the gaming company’s Japanese home page right now, with a shipping date of December 10th and a price of ¥1500 ($19.50). There’s also a list of supported games available, including Monster Hunter Tri G, BioHazard Revelations, Snake Eater 3D and more. It’s powered by a single AAA battery, which our country cousins at Joystiq note probably indicates you won’t be getting any extra playtime added to your 3DS by slapping this “boat” on the bottom. Check the source link below for the official info — we’ll keep our eyes peeled in Tokyo for North American release info and of course, the color matched Misty Pink edition you’re already looking for.
