Last week, T-Mobile decided to finally officially unveil the Sidekick 4G, the Android-powered smartphone manufactured by Samsung that’s supposed to keep the very popular Sidekick brand alive (even if, software-wise, it will have nothing in common with the classic Sidekicks). The T-Mobile Sidekick 4G’s hardware, however, can be instantly recognized as being part of the Sidekick family from a mile away – that famous hinge is there, as well as the great QWERTY keyboard it reveals.
The only thing missing from T-Mobile’s announcement back then was pricing information, but now we have that as well. Engadget has found out that the new Sidekick will set you back $99.99 (after a $50 mail-in rebate) if you choose to sign a new two-year contract. You’ll also need to be getting a monthly unlimited data plan. If you don’t want unlimited data, the Sidekick 4G will be yours if you shell out $149.99.
The Sidekick 4G will be available via T-Mobile “later this Spring”, and it will available in two colors, matte black or pearl magenta.

However, is this another statement that only applied for our illusion and hope or the actual deal.

Taiwan-based Altek (best known for making digital cameras) is getting ready to launch its first Android smartphone: the A14 Leo.
What’s noteworthy about the Altek A14 Leo is that it has a 14MP autofocus camera with Xenon flash and 3x optical zoom – it’s the first Android handset with such a camera.
The Leo also features a 3.2 inch WVGA multi-touch capacitive display, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, HSDPA, GPS, an 800MHz processor, and MicroSD card support. Unfortunately, the handset runs Android 2.1 Éclair.
Starting this month, the Altek A14 Leo will be available in Taiwan and China. Russia and India should get it in the second quarter of the year.
According to DigiTimes, Altek plans top release another Android handset before the year’s end, which will be based on Android 2.2 or 2.3. There’s no word on what camera this handset will feature. More Pictures and video after the jump.

As you’re sure to know there are many different smartphones on the market making it easy to find the perfect solution for you. However, if you take a look at the mobile landscape most smartphones, other than some varying hardware, are more or less the same. Take the iPhone 4 and the recently released Motorola Atrix, for example. While both are powered by different platforms and the Atrix features a dual-core processor, higher resolution camera and the like, they look and act generally the same.
Some could argue that there’s no innovation going down here while others can say there’s no need to fix something that isn’t broken. Regardless of the matter, Kyocera came forth earlier this year to show off their own innovative smartphone dubbed the Echo. This smartphone, unlike others, features not one but two touchscreen displays. This allows consumers to utilize the device as a typical slate smartphone or, when both screens are connected, a sort of mini tablet.
Unfortunately, until we’re capable of getting our hands on the device we won’t know for sure how it will fare and at this time we don’t know when it will actually be made available, only that it will be made available for Sprint. Luckily, it was just noted that the device has passed through the FCC which, in some cases, means that it could possibly be coming soon.
Of course, until someone officially involved with the matter comes forth to give an announcement I wouldn’t get too excited as teh device’s launch could still be a ways off. Stay tuned with us.
