E FUN has been churning out Android tablets left and right. Its Nextbook line is on its seventh generation and yet it still has to make a ripple in the market. Perhaps its newest version will prove to be a hit.
The Nextbook Premium 8 tablet runs on a disappointing Android 2.3, but the company promises over-the-air updates. It comes with an 8-inch TFT capacitive screen, Rockchip RK2918 processor, 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, built-in WiFi, SlideME application manager, OfficeSuite Viewer, ASTRO File Manager, and a 2-megpaixel front facing camera. The device is preloaded with Kobo eBook Store app, though no mention of the Android Market. This latest Nextbook tablet is now available for $299.99. Good luck competing with the $199 tags of Kindle Fire and Lenovo IdeaPad A1.

Best Buy Slashes The 7 inch HTC Flyer Android Tablet Down To $99

Oh my. Tablet prices are in a free fall. The HTC Flyer is only $99 at Best Buy right now. The price seems isolated to Best Buy right now so it’s likely the price drop is not from HTC but rather Best Buy. The website is sold out but your local stores still might have some. You know what to do: drop everything and head down to your Best Buy. This is an awesome deal and hopefully a sign that manufacturers and retailers are finally getting aggressive.

HP started the fire sale trend by dropping the TouchPad down to $99. Even with a dead OS, the TouchPad was an amazing deal for $99. HP and retailers sold out within hours. The HTC Flyer might be a slightly smaller tab, but it rocks a proven Android release and is built quite nice. It’s a steal at $99.

RIM also recently cut the price of its tablet, the PlayBook, to $300. But it’s still overpriced. Amazon got it right with the $200 Kindle Fire. Consumers need a low enough price that the purchase feels like a deal. Non-iPad tablets are going to be treading water until they’re priced right. It’s unrealistic to expect $99 mainstream tablets, but prices still need to drop to a more competitive level.

As liliputing points out, the Best Buy Flyer sale might have been an accident but it’s also a great deal worth pursuing. Drop everything and head down to your local Best Buy emporium and tell the blue-shirted shopkeeps to bring forward your Flyer post-haste.

Taxan MeoTune TAXAN MeoTune Converts Smartphone Into Portable TV

Taxan MeoTune

TAXAN have come up with a solution, called the MeoTune, this gadget is a WiFi-enabled 1-Seg TV tuner that works on Android and iOS devices. The MeoTune tunes into local TV channels with regular airwaves, and transfers the content to smartphones over WiFi, which the phones can view with an app. The MeoTune has a battery life of up to four hours, which should be enough for most journeys, and can also function as an emergency battery charger for your smartphone (though your TV viewing time will be reduced). A pretty cool device, that probably won’t make it stateside, but hey – the next time you travel to Japan and you’re itching to watch TV, you won’t have to buy a new phone. [TB]

Adobe Flash Player 11 and AIR 3

Today Adobe is rocking the news with their MAX conference. They have just announced the much anticipated Adobe Flash Player 11 will be available starting tonight for multiple platforms, including Android. Same rules apply for Air 3.0 and they will be available tonight at 9:00 PM PT or early morning for you East Coast folks. The latest Flash updates will bring significant changes that were detailed in-depth back in September.

Sadly for mobile and Android this initial release wont see the new Stage 3D codenamed “Molehill”. Although both flash and air will eventually bring major improvements to mobile that will help to stabilize and revolutionize the way we game and consume content on the web and our mobile devices. Stage 3D was one of the most exciting aspects of the new Flash 11 and while it is coming soon, its sad that we can’t see it today on Android.

More details can be found over on the Adobe blog and the downloads for both Flash 11 and Air 3.0 should go live tonight around 9:00 PM PST. For now until everything gets incorporated into Android we’ll just have to wait and watch. Soon we’ll be experiencing amazing 2D and 3D graphics at upwards of 60 FPS on our Honeycomb tablets for some true console-style gaming. Stay tuned for more details regarding Android as the Adobe event continues, below is one example of what we can expect to see coming soon.[AC]

Turns out, Sony Ericsson is really coming around to the understanding that Android phones are not a one-size-fits-all proposition. After taking notice of the FreeXperia team’s tireless efforts to bring CyanogenMod 7.1 to certain SE devices, the company is now “pulling a Samsung” by lending its support to the cause. The firm has provided the group with approximately 20 phones, along with debugged and rebuilt camera library binaries to ensure a proper user experience.

Not stopping there, Sony Ericsson hopes to make these bits available to all developers under a special EULA in the near future. Of course, the company continues to remind its users that it doesn’t specifically condone unlocking the bootloader — which still results in a void warranty — even though it’s willing to help you do just that. ITA OnTheFly App

Google went through a lot to buy ITA and its travel software, and we saw the acquisition first bear fruit in the form of Mountain View’s web-based Flight Search. Now the partnership has produced version 1.2 of the OnTheFly airfare booking app for Android, iOS and BlackBerry. What’s new? Flexible date searches that let you peruse departures 35 days at a time, plus a price graph that shows the most fiscally prudent times to travel. Additionally, globetrotters can access their itinerary search history and see price changes for those fares throughout the year. Nice job fellas, now let’s work on bringing bargain-basement fare finding for the final frontier in the next revision. [engadget]

htc explorer 640 Android On A Budget: Behold The HTC Explorer

You can say a lot of things about smartphones, but you cannot say they’re cheap. Enter HTC Explorer, the latest Android smartphone from HTC, which aims to satisfy your smartphone needs with less than stellar specifications and a very affordable price.

HTC Explorer is a compact Android 2.3 smartphone, with a 3.2-inch HVGA (480 x 320) screen, a 3-megapixel camera, a 600 MHz CPU and 512 MB of memory, which can be further expanded via memory cards. It’ll come in three colors: metallic black, active black and metallic navy.

The device will be available in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East in October; there’s no word on when or whether it’s coming to the U.S.

The price hasn’t been officially confirmed at this point, but Engadget reports it will be well below $290 (sans contract), which is the price of HTC’s other mid-range smartphone, the Wildfire S.
