If you see yourself being an illegal tetherer on the iPhone over AT&T’s network as a good thing, that, my friend, is going to have its curtain drawn down as well. Ma Bell will be removing unlimited plans for users who jailbreak their iPhones in order to tether off AT&T’s unlimited data plans. Check out what an AT&T spokesperson has to say about the situation after the jump.
Earlier this year, we began sending letters, emails, and text messages to a small number of smartphone customers who use their devices for tethering but aren’t on our required tethering plan. Our goal here is fairness for all of our customers. (This impacts a only small percentage of our smartphone customer base.)
The letters outline three choices:
1) Stop tethering and keep their current plan (including grandfathered unlimited plan)
2) Proactively call AT&T or visit our stores and move to the required tethering plan
3) Do nothing and we’ll go ahead and add the tethering plan on their behalf — after the dated noted in their customer notification
AT&T has confirmed the above to be true, so just enjoy whatever time you have left – AT&T did not give a hard cutoff date, but since it can be anytime, this is where the adage “every second counts” comes into play.

We have just got an image received by Boy Genius Report confirms a new Android-based QWERTY Slider incoming from Samsung. We don’t have any other details except from the fact that it will be launched on AT&T. Going by the image, the phone has a nice looking QWERTY keyboard, front-facing camera and 3.5mm headphone jack.

This is a great news if you are looking to purchase the Google Nexus S and save some some cash, since the AT&T Nexus S is now available just for $99 at BestBuy Of course you’re going to have to sign a 2-year contract to grab the subsidized price. But remember this is a Sim Locked Nexus S version with AT&T Provider. The Android Smartphone comes with a 1GHz Hummingbird, 512MB of RAM, 16GB on-board storage, NFC and a 4-inch Super-AMOLED screen with WVGA (800×480) resolution.

If you are looking forward to the HP TouchPad 4G, then here’s the deal – it will be available only via AT&T when it arrives as an exclusive model. Just what do you expect the TouchPad 4G to pack? How about a speedier 1.5GHz processor to kick things off, alongside 32GB of internal memory, built-in GPS navigation capability, and AT&T wireless mobile broadband connectivity just in case there are moments when you are out of a Wi-Fi network’s range?
Of course, getting a 3G-enabled tablet would also mean additional costs to your monthly budget, as you would need to make room for yet another data plan. Good thing AT&T has their DataConnect Plans for Tablets, letting you opt for either prepaid or postpaid mobile broadband data service which fits your needs to a T. Apart from that, HP TouchPad 4G owners can also have their share of unlimited access where AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots around the country are concerned. There is still no word on pricing as at press time, so stay tuned

One of the devices was the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the PlayStation smartphone with the slide-out game controller keypad. The Xperia Play will also run on AT&T’s HSPA “4G” network that boasts theoretical speeds of up to 21Mbps. Specs for the phone should remain relatively the same as what we have seen of the device so far, but a new color option has been revealed.
Alas, AT&T won’t say just yet when the Play will be available or how much it will cost on contract, but we do know a couple things for sure. Other than that, the specs — namely, the 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon chip and 4-inch (854 x 480 display) — remain the same.

Most tablets function just fine on their own, but RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook introduced a unique, yet restrictive interface that limits Bluetooth tethering to a similarly-branded handset. This feature, called BlackBerry Bridge, lets your tablet piggyback on a handset’s 3G data connection, also enabling access to productivity apps like email and calendar, which are still otherwise unavailable on the PlayBook. Unfortunately, this option hasn’t been made available for AT&T users, but that’s about to change, as the feature will be added to App World today. While the Bridge suite is totally gratis, enabling the AT&T 3G data connection requires a monthly tethering plan of $45, which means anyone grandfathered into theunlimited data feature will need to decide if it’s worth the jump. Bridge not sounding like your cup of tea? Don’t worry — at least you can take comfort in knowing that the days of pining for native email are numbered.

Hello, meet the HTC Status. You may know it from such previous names as the ChaCha, ChaChaCha, or our personal favorite, “the Facebook phone that’s not a Facebook phone.” None of these titles made it through AT&T’s gauntlet, however, and that’s a-okay with us — in fact, given its emphasis on social networking, the new name actually makes much more sense. The pictures above and below (the break) display the phone’s AT&T branding, new Facebook button, and rearranged keyboard in the same fashion as the leaked press shot we saw earlier. If there was any doubt that you’ll be seeing this device “in a relationship” with store shelves anytime soon, let this assuage your skepticism.

AT&T has just announced that the the LG Thrill 4G will be arriving at the carrier this summer. Unfortunately, AT&T gave no official release date for the carrier’s first 3D phone. This statement was most likely due to the recent release of the HTC EVO 3D by Sprint.
The Thrill 4G is the same phone as the LG Optimus 3D. If you are unfamiliar with the Optimus 3D, it spots a dual-core 1GHz OMAP4 processor, a 3D glasses free display, a 1.3MP front facing camera, dual 5MP cameras in the rear with 720p 3D video recording. An interesting feature of this device is the ability to convert a 2D photo or video to 3D. The phone also comes pre-loaded with a few different 3D games and Gameloft’s 3D game store.
The Thrill 4G will ship with Android 2.2 and will run on AT&T HSPA+ network. We will keep you updated on an official date and pricing for the Thrill 4G.
