The Blackberry 9810 Torch 2 and Blackberry Touch 9860 are not yet officially announced by RIM, after several leaked photos and even video, today the press photos of both of the 9810 and 9860 appeared. I believe this means that The company will likely introduce the smartphones soon and it looks like the handsets will soon coming to Canada starting from August.

The BlackBerry 9810 Torch 2 looks pretty much identical to the previous Torch, but it has enhanced features, including a VGA touchscreen display, 1.2GHz processor, and BlackBerry OS 7. As for the Touch 9860, this doesn’t have a hardware QWERTY keyboard, and comes with a 3.7 inch WVGA display (plus BB OS 7, a 1.2GHz processor, and lots of other features). Now we’ll be waiting for the official release date, we’ll keep you posted.

BlackBerry Torch 9850 and Curve 9350 to be launched by US Cellular

The CDMA versions of the unannounced BlackBerry Torch 9860 and BlackBerry Curve 9360 – namely the Torch 9850 and Curve 9350 – seem to be making their way to US Cellular. Both new smartphones have appeared on the carrier’s mail-in rebate form for July 15 – November 20, which should mean they’ll be released in November the latest. The rebate form also shows the HTC Desire II and HTC Wildfire S (we’ve previously heard that these would be introduced US Cellular), plus some phones that are already available – thus it’s probably legit.

Unlike the previous two Torch smartphones, the Torch 9850 / 9860 won’t have a hardware keyboard. Instead, it will come with a a 3.7 inch WVGA display, Wi-Fi, a single-core 1.2GHz processor, and BlackBerry OS 7. Also running BlackBerry OS 7, the Curve 9350 / Curve 9360 should feature a 2.4 inch HVGA screen, 800MHz processor, and a standard QWERTY keyboard. It’s quite possible that Verizon and Sprint will offer the Torch 9850 and Curve 9350, too, since they’re CDMA devices. We’ll provide more details as soon as new info is unveiled.

Black BlackBerry Bold 9900 launches in the UK on September 15

The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 represents RIM’s effort to reinvent the classic BlackBerry form factor by making the display a touchscreen – just like, say, the Nokia E6. Unlike the Nokia E6 however, the BlackBerry 9900 seems like it’s very far away from hitting the streets.

In the UK, for example, we’ve heard that Vodafone and Three will carry the device, and it’s also turned up at Expansys (a well known UK retailer) in the form of a product page with no price and no shipping date announced.

Today though we have some good news and some bad news for those of you in the UK anxious to buy the Bold 9900. The good news is that we now have a semi-official release date to speak of. The bad news? It’s September 15.

Amazon UK has listed the BlackBerry Bold 9900, both a black version as well as a white version. The former will be out on September 15, while the latter will be shipping on October 15. They will both cost a pretty steep £549.99, but the black phone will launch a whole month before the white one for some reason.

Anyway, even September is more than two months away, and that’s a very, very long time in the mobile world. It remains to be seen if the interest in the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 will last that long, or it will perhaps slowly die down outside of the corporate space. So if you’re among those who’d like to get one of these, you’ll probably have to be a very patient individual not to go for something else in the mean time. A test of loyalty to RIM, incidentally.

How can you “be what’s next” without having what’s next on your phone? Bing is here to help you fulfill its tagline by updating its mobile site for any device that runs HTML5. If the update had a highlight reel to show off the newest features, here’s what would be on it: a carousel-like interface in the news section that lets you swipe your finger left or right to switch to other categories; maps that show directions together in split-screen format; a search history complete with trending topics; and the ability to share images and links on Facebook.

The new enhancements are now available to iOS, Android, and BlackBerry, so it’s an easy jaunt over to your browser to check it out. Or, if you’re reading this on your phone, give the ol’ More Coverage link a quick tap.

 Blackberry Playbook 3G Now Available

A recent rumor indicated that Sprint would be releasing a 4G WiMax version of the Playbook after a a hidden product page was found due to a Google search of “4G playbook.”

Unfortunately, it was revealed today that the playbook has 3G connectivity rather than 4G for now. Although, Rim had initially planned for having all three major US carriers sell their own 4G version of the tablet, but the half-baked software made the carriers hesitant. Verizon even mentioned that they were uncertain about whether or not they would carry the tablet.

Initial reviews of the Playbook revealed that the tablet had potential, but it is a half finished product. Blackberry has already started rolling out the first update for the tablet. It would also be nice to see a new 10-inch Playbook with none of the mistakes from the original. The 3G version is now available both online and in retail stores. We will keep you updated on the status of the 4G Playbook.

Shocker! Instant Messaging Gains Popularity As TXTing Declines, BBM To Blame

Apparently, those young’uns just love their BBM. According to a report by the research group Mobile Youth, young folk (read: those of you between 15 and 24) are increasingly abandoning SMS in favor of instant messaging apps, with texting expected to drop off 20 percent over the next two years. The main culprit? BlackBerry Messenger, which now boasts over 39 million users, many of them living outside the US. In fact, it’s in the UK, Indonesia, South Africa, and Brazil — all popular markets for BBM — that Mobile Youth expects texting to dwindle the most. And if BBM is to blame, well, that drop-off could be just the beginning.

BlackBerry PlayBook Hits FCC with 3 Flavors

blackberryplaybookfcc BlackBerry PlayBook Hits FCC with 3 Flavors

Tablets are one of hottest trends in the mobile world with hardware manufacturers across the board coming forth with their own offerings. The current undisputed leader is Apple’s iPad (and presumably, the forthcoming iPad 2) which hit store shelves last year with runner ups looking to knock the iPad off its throne like the Motorola XOOM.

However, while these tablets are the leaders in the iOS and Android world, several other tablets powered by different platforms are in the works as well. One of the more highly anticipated tablets is none other than RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook. We’ve told you about this device many times in the past but for those not paying attention it features a 7-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 5 megapixel rear facing camera, 3 megapixel front facing camera and is powered by RIM’s BlackBerry QNX platform.
While the device is expected to launch in the coming months there is still more news to be told. For instance, just today the device has been spotted at the FCC with three different storage sizes including 16, 32 and 64GB. Unfortunately, we don’t have a price to associate with these varying models but, if we had to take a guess, we’d say the 16GB model will be considerably cheaper than the 64GB – but, you know, that’s just us.

Expected to be released in the US before the end of this month, the BlackBerry PlayBook will come with a little musical surprise: RIM has partnered with 7digital and will pre-install the British company’s Music Store on the tablet.

This means that PlayBook owners will have access to more than13 million high-quality MP3s included in 7digital’s catalogue. Songs won’t be free, of course. They’ll be priced similarly to the prices you can find at the official 7digital website.

The 7digital Music Store is a perfect complement to the high-performance BlackBerry PlayBook, providing users with fast searches and downloads, and a slick interface that makes it very easy to discover, purchase and enjoy music,” declared Alistair Mitchell, Vice President, BlackBerry Messenger Platform & Integrated Services.
