The Palm Pre 2 was kind of quietly released on Verizon without much fanfare or excitement. It was the last “Palm” batch of webOS phones and devices, and I don’t think HP put much effort into promoting it and neither did Verizon with their piles of Android phones on the shelves. Regardless, if you’re one of the lucky few who owns the Palm Pre 2, you’ll be happy to know that HP has updated the Verizon Palm Pre 2 to webOS 2.1!
This update is actually a bit late, as it came out three months ago to those with unlocked Palm Pre 2. Better late than never, though, and the webOS 2.1 update adds things like:
- Exhibition (an app that showcases your phone while it’s plugged into a dock, seems like something that would be used in a cell phone store while the phone is on display).
- Voice Dial (self-explanatory)
- Support for Bluetooth Keyboards
- Changes to backup (If you pack up your phone’s data to your Palm profile, it now will backup call history, text messages and instant messages. MMS messages are not backed up.)
- Email fixes (Some general fixes to bugs in the way that webOS handled email. Things like how a music file is handed after being downloaded as an attachment and how reply emails are formatted)
- Messaging (Your icon status now displays correctly after you retrieved a backed up messaging account from Palm profile)
- Photos (Thumbnail images appear correctly in Wallpapers album)
- Tasks (You can now use a symbol as the first character in a search when searching for a task)
- Various security fixes
So, in general, nothing to get super-excited about, but a lot of smaller, important stuff that makes for a need-to-have update.

We heard before that HP purchased the Palm company, recently. And HP tablet which named HP Hurricane is doing a change of the OS. The company cancel the Windows 7 powered Slate and replace it with the Palm WebOS. Our source also said that HP was not happy with the Windows 7 touch screen performance. HP may also be dropping the Intel processor for something “LESS POWER HUNGARY”. If they go to the new OS they won’t need the Intel processor and thus will gain a few more hours of battery life. The rumor also says that The company will release it in Q3 2010. Stay tuned for more updates.
