Earlier this month, LG announced the Optimus LTE, its first Android-powered smartphone to come with an HD touchscreen. Back then, the phone was said to be headed only to Korea, with two versions being created for two different carriers over there.
Yet it was kind of inevitable that the Optimus LTE would slowly start to make its way to other corners of the world. Because of its LTE connectivity, you certainly won’t be seeing it everywhere anytime soon, but there still are quite a few countries which have carriers deploying LTE, so LG’s new smartphone should be out of Korea pretty soon.
In Canada, it looks like Bell is going to be the carrier to sell the Optimus LTE, though it will do so under a different name. The carrier has named its version LG Eye. We have no pricing information to speak of yet, and no solid release date either. MobileSyrup speculates that it could be launched next month, but we’ll see.
This information all comes from the video above, which at first glance looks like an innocent enough rundown of a phone’s specs. Yet it refers to the device as the LG Eye, and also mentions it coming to Bell’s network. Which is logical, since The Source, the store for which this demo video was created, is owned by Bell. See? All the pieces of the puzzle neatly fall into place.

Apple iPad Mini may be more real then you think.
According to the Taiwanese Economic Daily News, two potential suppliers – Korean LG Display and Taiwanese AU Optronics – have recently sent samples of their iPad Mini displays to Apple. EDN sources tell them that Apple has already set the specifications for the smaller tablet, which is scheduled to ship early next year.
iPad mini display panel size is 7.85” and it has the same resolution as the iPad 2.
There is a lot of speculation that iPad Mini is Apple’s response to the cheap 7” Kindle Fire that Amazon launched earlier this month. But I do not think this is a case.
While Steve Jobs dismissed 7” tablets in Apple’s earnings conference call a year ago, it does not mean much. Steve has been known to publicly deny and dismiss a lot of products until Apple was ready to launch them. E.g.video iPod or even the idea of tablet PC itself.
A smaller 7-8” iPad does have a lot of merit in and of itself. In addition to being cheaper due to smaller display panel size, it will be a much more portable device, easier to carry around, which could make it attractive to a whole new set of customers.
And while Apple seems to have found a sweet spot, “one size fits all” form factor for the iPhone, and has no immediate plans to change that, tablets are a very different category of device. It is a completely new and uncharted market, with a lot of room to explore an additional device sizes and form factors.
Broadening a product range with a cheaper, smaller and more portable tablet should help Apple maintain the market dominance it enjoys now, even longer.

Fans of LG will be glad to know that the Korean company is going to be release the next set of myTouch phones on T-Mobile. The two LG myTouch phones have been spotted on the T-Mobile website as phones that are “coming soon”. Just like previous myTouch devices from HTC, there will be a variant that’s just a full touchscreen – the myTouch and one with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard – the myTouch Q.
Both of the myTouch devices will feature a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Other than that, not much else is known except for the myTouch Q’s keyboard. Both phones might be HSPA+ compatible, though it’s not confirmed. The LG myTouch should be available on November 2nd 2011. Expect the phones to be on the mid to lower end of the pricing spectrum when they go on sale later this year.

A dual-screen slider smartphone device made by LG has been revealed is some pictures, utilizing some form of Android, and carried by T-Mobile. This device will most than likely use its lower smaller touchscreen to hold a drawer of apps along with whatever else developers find themselves developing into the platform. According to a leaked T-Mobile roadmap discovered back in May, this device will be released on the pink carrier by September 14th, 2011. What makes this handset interesting is that it comes equipped with a dual-screen orientation, which is similar with the Kyocera Echo. The Android phone also features a QWERTY keypad and the Google Android 2.2 Froyo OS. The T-Mobile LG Flip II Android Phone will be launched on September 14th, 2011 for only $200.

It looks like communications are a bit a spotty between US Cellular and LG, as the latter company has posted information about its dual-screen LG Genesis Android handset before the former company was ready to officially launch it. Of course, the reveal is somewhat of a moot point, as we’d seen full specs for Genesis leak earlier this month — and we’d known about it long before that as the enV Pro, destined for Verizon.
According to Android Central, the Froyo-powered Genesis will cost a relatively steep $249.99 on contract whenever US Cellular releases it, making it the carrier’s most expensive handset. With a 1GHz processor and dual 3.2- and 3.5-inch screens, though, you are getting more hardware than most phones. Still no word on whether or not we’ll see this revived on Verizon as the VS761 (Genesis is US760).

If there was any doubt that CES 2011 would be the beginning of the Honeycomb tablet wars, additional confirmations coming through Australian blog Smarthouse will help put those doubts to rest. Sources have confirmed that LG Electronics will indeed, as speculated, take the covers off a 8.9″-screen tablet that happens to run Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb.
There is speculation that this LG tablet, which some are calling the Optimus Pad, will have 2 screen sizest available in 8.9″ and 10″ and may even have a physical keyboard with Tegra2 processor.
It looks like this tablet will be announced at LG’s official press conference on Wednesday, January 5.
