Nokia announced its plans to release blowers packing Microsoft’s Windows Phone software way back in February. Fast forward seven months and there’s still no specific release date for the devices, which have already been gazumped by HTC’s new Titan and Radar handsets.
However, Nokia has taken to Twitter to reassure anxious fans that the company is still planning to unleash the next-gen phones before the year is out. The @nokia account tweeted, “We cannot confirm local availability but the 1st Nokia w/WP (Windows Phone) devices will ship in Q4 and with volumes in 2012 cc @NokiaAustralia.”
This at least assuages fears that Espoo, renowned for delaying its best smartphones for months after their announcement, is at least on track. However, its interesting to note that Nokia Australia was copied in. Is this where the first Nokia Windows Phones will be released? It’d be a bizarre move by the Finns if so.

While Apple is busy opening new stores, Nokia is trying to close as many of its stores as fast as possible. Make of that what you will, but it’s one of the countless things that differentiate Nokia from Apple. While the latter is trying to be as consumer-facing as it can, the former seems to be running from any direct contact with mobile phone buyers.
So after closing flagship store after flagship store in the past, Nokia has even closed its online stores in many countries so far. And today it was time for the US and UK online stores to go. If you try and visit either of these sites now, you’ll get a notice that the store is closed, along with information about how to contact Nokia if you’ve already made an order from either online store.
The US page also directs you to Amazon for your Nokia purchasing needs, while the UK page offers to tell you where physical Nokia stores are located.
I’m guessing that not many people chose to buy direct from Nokia’s online stores, otherwise closing them just wouldn’t have been financially justified. So the select few who did purchase from these websites will now have to go elsewhere for their Nokia fix. Sad?

Though its visits have been few and far between, Nokia has had a presence on China Mobile for many years. The carrier’s never been blessed, however, with any TD-SCDMA devices powered by Symbian^3 — until now. Two new flagship models, known as the T7-00 and 702T, were announced by both companies and slated for Q3 release.
If both phones seem oddly familiar, there’s a very good reason why: the T7-00, as we originally speculated, is a variant of the Nokia N8 with a lower-quality 8 megapixel EDoF sensor; the 702T is the TD-SCDMA version of the E6, though the keyboard has been altered slightly to include larger Function and Ctrl buttons, allowing for easier switching between Chinese and English input. Both phones will be pre-loaded with the Anna update, and could be a big factor in helping Nokia hit its goal of selling 150 million Symbian devices before the OS goes the way of the Dodo. I don’t know what to say but the fact is Nokia has decided to cancel their partnership with AT&T. We reported before that Nokia X7 smartphone is heading to AT&T and Nokia also planned to announce it during MWC 2011. But, today Nokia has decided to break off this plans. This cancellation actually happens because Nokia predict that the X7 will fail on receiving enough marketing and subsidies support from AT&T. But don’t you worry if you already plans to purchase this phone because Nokia will still launch the X7 in other markets. We’ll keep you updated. [SP]

Accessing the Internet through our mobiles phones is as common place these days as sending a text message or making a phone call. While only a few years ago, the Internet in mobile phone was slow and sluggy and really an expensive feature; it is now available on just about every mobile and we can now access the net through super fast Wi-Fi meaning that our phone is basically a smaller version of our laptops. You can find the best mobile contracts for the latest phones including Nokia 5228 deals by shopping around online.
Sadly, the Nokia 5228 is not following on the trend of fast Internet connection for it does not feature Wi-Fi. Indeed, unlike the 5230 is doesn’t even have HSDPA or 3G; instead it relies on EDGE. While in it’s most basic sense this should be ok for mobile browsing – checking news headlines, perhaps even having a quick look at your Facebook or Twitter updates – it isn’t going to extend much further than this. Uploading pictures and the like to your social networking profile and viewing content heavy websites is going to be extremely slow and painstaking on the Nokia 5228. Indeed you would be as well to just wait until you have access to a computer before you undertake any data heavy activities for the Nokia 5228 just isn’t going to cut it in this regard.
This isn’t meant to completely disregard the Nokia 5228 – although 3G would have been a nice addition – as it is very much marketed at those who still want a mobile phone to be just that – a phone. While Internet access and a flashy camera etc… is all very well and good, many people just want a mobile to do the simple things – calling and texting – and with the Nokia 5228 you are getting a device that does just that.

Nokia newest handset the C6-01 has just been spotted at the Nokia Netherland’s official site, the phone is basically a tweaked version of the Nokia C6-00, but the new specifications comes with an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash instead of a single LED flash, and the back cover has also been redesigned, pretty good specs. The C6-01 phone also equipped with other features like a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 360 x 640 pixel touchscreen display, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Ovi Maps. Nokia retails it at EUR279 ($361). [UG]
