Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V UK launched Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V Available In The UK

Introduced by Sony Ericsson in August as a slightly different Xperia Neo, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V is now available in the UK, where Play.com is selling it unlocked.

Play is asking £259.99 (about €300 or $415) for the Neo V – a good price considering the handset’s features, which include a 3.7 inch scratch-resistant display with 854 x 480 pixels, Wi-Fi, DLNA, HSDPA, GPS, 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording, front-facing camera, and a 1GHz processor.

The Xperia Neo V currently runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. However, like all the other Xperia smartphones released this year, it should be updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at some point.

Turns out, Sony Ericsson is really coming around to the understanding that Android phones are not a one-size-fits-all proposition. After taking notice of the FreeXperia team’s tireless efforts to bring CyanogenMod 7.1 to certain SE devices, the company is now “pulling a Samsung” by lending its support to the cause. The firm has provided the group with approximately 20 phones, along with debugged and rebuilt camera library binaries to ensure a proper user experience.

Not stopping there, Sony Ericsson hopes to make these bits available to all developers under a special EULA in the near future. Of course, the company continues to remind its users that it doesn’t specifically condone unlocking the bootloader — which still results in a void warranty — even though it’s willing to help you do just that. Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Now Available Unlocked In The US For $379.99

After being announced in June and subsequently getting delayed until this month, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has quickly made its way to many countries over the past few weeks. And today it adds another one to its achievements list.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is now available in the US, though not from a carrier, as you may expect. Instead, you can buy the Xperia Ray at independent online retailers such as Newegg, and you’ll get an unlocked device.

You’ll be able to use it on AT&T or T-Mobile, though if you’d like to get 3G or 4G speeds, you’re going to have to stick with AT&T, since the Xperia Ray doesn’t have the bands required for T-Mobile’s flavor of high speed data.

Newegg will give you an Xperia Ray if you agree to part with $379.99 of your hard earned cash. The phone is in stock right now and you also get free shipping. So if you’re interested, go to Newegg now and place your order.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray has a 3.3-inch 854×480 touchscreen, an 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and 720p HD video recording, a 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, 1 GB of ROM, 300 MB of user accessible built-in storage, microSD card support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HSPA, GPS, and a 1500 mAh battery.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update is Available Now

Posted on 26 July 2011 by martin

2011 07 26 13h24 02 thumb The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update is Available Now

Good news for the owners of the Sony Erricsson Xperia X10 because the official Gingerbread update is ready and available to download. The update brings many new features aside from the goodness of Gingerbread, including Facebook inside Xperia, Sony’s take on Facebook integration; Wi-Fi hotspot and USB tethering, a new music player with equalizer, photo widget, and app tray sorting.

There are some downsides to the update as well:

  • User data, such as contacts, messages and more, saved in your phone memory will be overwritten. User data saved on the phone’s memory card is not affected.
  • DRM content will be overwritten.
  • The Backup and Restore app will be overwritten and cannot be used to restore data. Check out Android Market for alternative apps to back up and restore your data, such as MyBackup.
  • The Creatouch, Neoreader and Quadrapop apps will be removed.
  • Mediascape, homescreen operator customization and app tray operator customization will no longer be supported.
  • Moxier Exchange will be replaced by Android 2.3 Gingerbread Exchange support.

To grab the update, head over to Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 landing page; if you don’t already have PC Companion installed, you can grab that from the download link as well.

Sony Ericsson Xperia arc now available unlocked in the U.S

U.S. residents have had to sit idly by as one of the best Sony Ericsson smartphones in recent memory, the Xperia arc, made its tour around other parts of the world. It looks like the wait has come to an end, as an unlocked version of the Xperia arc is now listed in Sony Ericsson’s U.S. store.

This particular variant features 3G compatibility on the 800/850/1900/2100MHz bands, meaning you can get the most out of it on AT&T’s network. Using it on T-Mobile will slow you down to 2G, EDGE speeds though, since it does not support the 1700MHz AWS band.

You still get all of the goodies that has made the Xperia arc a favorite among reviewers, including the 4.2-inch, Bravia display, 8 megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sony Ericsson’s custom interface. All of those fine specs are crammed into an 8.7mm (0.34in) thin chassis that weighs only 117g (4.13oz).

Interested shoppers can expect to drop $600 when they place their order directly from Sony Ericsson, which plans to ship these American Xperia arcs out starting tomorrow

xperia ray Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray now available for pre ordering for 349.99 GBP in UK

Last time we heard that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray said to be available in the UK at some point in August. At that point, the information came from The Carphone Warehouse and now we have a more specific date, thanks to another mobile phone retailer – Play.com, which has started taking pre-orders. From their Xperia Ray page we learn that the Android-powered smartphone is available for 349.99 GBP sans any long-term commitments. The shipping date is set at August 15th, which is like 6 weeks from now.
If you recall, this particular Sony Ericsson’s baby is deemed as a younger brother of the Xperia Neo, boasting a smaller screen yet pretty much the same guts (as Neo), including the pretty fast (though single-core) 1GHz processor.

Red Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo now available at Vodafone UK, free from £26 per month

Red Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo now available at Vodafone UK, free from £26 per month

Just as we let you know it would, the red Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo has now become available from Vodafone in the UK, and the operator claims it’s got exclusivity on this color. So if you absolutely must have an Xperia Neo in red, Vodafone is your only option apparently.

Other than the different color, this is of course exactly the same device as any other Xperia Neo. This smartphone, that should keep Sony Ericsson ‘in the game’ in the upper-midrange part of the market has finally been released in the UK last week, after some delays.

Vodafone will give you a Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo for free if you sign a new two-year contract that will cost you at least £26 per month. For that money, you get 300 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data each month. If you want a cheaper plan, there’s a £20.5 per month option also available, but getting it requires paying £99 for the phone upfront. This plan gives you 100 minutes, 500 texts, and 250 MB of data each month.

Naturally though, the phone is offered for free on other, more expensive plans as well, the most expensive being £51 per month and offering 3000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data. So if you want to get a red Xperia Neo from Vodafone, make sure you go through all the different plans located on this page before you make a final choice. There’s probably a plan in there to perfectly suit your needs – at least if you don’t need more than 500 MB of data per month.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo has a 3.7-inch 480×854 LED-backlit capacitive touchscreen, an 8 MP autofocus rear camera with 720p HD continuous autofocus video recording, a secondary front-facing camera for video calls, 320 MB of internal storage space expandable via microSD (an 8 GB card is included in the sales package), 512 MB of RAM, 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, 5.76 Mbps HSUPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1500 mAh battery.

Vodafone UK is said to be preparing to launch the red version of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo on their network. The handset is currently being listed on their product page as ‘coming soon’, however, there’s no word on pricing and the exact release date yet. Just like the blue and silver versions, the red version will have the same 3.7-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen display, a 1GHz single-core processor, an 8.0-megapixel camera, 720p HD video recording capabilities, GPS, HSDPA, WiFi and run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.
