FacebookWP7 AZL4828 Facebook 2.0 For Windows Phone 7 Released, Brings Push Notifications & Revamped UI!

Facebook has just announced an update for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 app. The Facebook Windows Phone 7 app update brings lot of features, enhancements and improvements as it pushes the app version to v2.0.

Facebook 2.0 for Windows Phone 7 brings a revamped user interface and push notifications. The new feature gives users the flexibility to enable/disable push notifications according to user’s preferences. Enabling Push Notifications will allow the users to receive push notifications for messages, wall posts, photo comments or photo tags.

This is a really helpful feature for avid facebook users. In fact, push notifications make their social networking activity (facebook, here) incredibly easy as it notifies the user automatically in the event of a received notification or an update.

Even if you update Facebook for WP7 app, you may still not be able to avail Push Notification services unless you manually enable the feature. This is possible by going to the Facebook app for Windows Phone 7 on your device, navigation to app’s settings and selecting “I prefer to receive” under Push Notifications section.

kirf wp7 hd7 Keepin’ It Real Fake: Windows Phone 7 Debuts In China
If smartphone platforms are legitimized by a KIRF manufacturer’s tenacity to rip them off, then Windows Phone has truly arrived. Today we’re looking at a larger than life “HTC”-branded knock-off of the Omnia 7, replete with an 800 x 480 4.8-inch (!) capacitive touchscreen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Given the massive size of this phone, there’s plenty of room for features, which include Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS connectivity, along with a five megapixel camera, dual-SIMs and two microSD slots (for up to 32GB storage). Whew. Impressive specs aside, the device comes saddled with Windows Mobile 6.5 — which has been heavily modified to resemble WP7′s tile interface. There’s no word yet on pricing — just ask someone selling phones on a blanket the next time you’re in Shenzhen, okay?

checkin Check in Service Coming To Windows Phone 7?

It seems Windows Phone 7 will feature even more social network integration. The latest hint is this tweetby Ken Dacey, senior test lead at Microsoft, with the line “(Checked in at Microsoft Studio F)”. The first is of course indicating that the tweet is being sent via Windows Live, showing the promised twitter integration is coming along nicely, and of course that some kind of check-in service is coming along for the ride.

At the moment it is not clear if Microsoft will be launching an independent service or (preferable) it will integrate with existing services like FourSquare or Facebook Places.

An Asian Group Makes A WP7 Mascot That Aims to Strike Back at Apple and Android Dolls

A group of Asian WP7 fans designs a mascot for WP7, the design is based on the WP7 tiles, and the“W”on the top of the mascot represents “windows.” The designer called this guy Tiler, and I believe the name is derived from the  Windows Phone “Live Tiles.” Judging from this picture, I think Tiler is deciding to take on Apple and Android Dolls for a triple threat match. If this mascot has the “characteristic” of a tile, and I suppose it will have different colors, but no matter what, it looks kind of cute, and I will keep an eye on this little guy to see if it has updates or not.

I am not sure how many people still use Gowalla over FourSquare, but if you are still doing your checking in with this FourSquare competitor you will be pleased to know a Windows Phone 7 client is on the way. The app is currently being polished by MacroPod and should be submitted to Marketplace soon. An official app is apparently also on the way, but is almost certainly further off.

We have some encouraging news for Windows Phone 7 users now, as Microsoft has confirmed a collection of exciting apps that are on the way for devices as part of the Mango update, due to release sometime around Fall in the US.

Microsoft has recently spoken at MIX 11 about the upcoming Mango update, which is going to include major new features such as multitasking, background audio support for HTML5 web browsing, Push Notifications, Amazon shopping and much more.

However, what Windows Phone 7 users didn’t know and perhaps the most exciting thing of all, is that Microsoft are planning to bring a number of apps which are sure to put a smile on your face. These are an official Skype app, Spotify for music lovers and Angry Birds – to satisfy your gaming needs whilst on the move.

We’re not sure which we’re more excited about either – it’s probably a toss up between Spotify and Skype since we’ve seen enough of Angry Birds for now, especially after the release of Rio. Then again, Windows Phone 7 users have not so you’re entitled to get a little pumped up for it’s release.

Which app are you most looking forward to? Spotify is another gem in our opinion.
